In case you haven’t heard enough about the NATO Summit in Chicago lately, I have a piece in the Urban Times today – “My Wish for the NATO Summit: “Be the Change You Want to See in the World” – in which I share my hopes for the global meetings. The following is an excerpt, but you can check out the post in its entirety here:
“As leaders from around the world prepare to gather in Chicago for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Summit next week, and as the city and nation launch extensive security measures to prevent violent protests or riots, I offer my wish for the Summit. May they all remember the prophetic words of Mohandas Gandhi:
“Be the change you want to see in the world.”
As highly controversial issues are brought center stage, may we all remember that we fight war, not with violence, but peace. We fight ignorance, not with anger, but with education and cooperation. We fight inequality, not with aggression, but with dignified confidence. We fight injustice, not with chaos, but with patience and integrity.”
